Office Ski Day

Jay Peak, Vt., (January 22, 2010) GKA closed the office for the day to visit and enjoy our newly completed project at Jay Peak -- the Tram Haus Lodge. Everyone enjoyed a day on the slopes and out on the snowshoe trails, and relaxed with some drinks and a delicious dinner afterward at the Tower Bar and Alice's Restaurant. What better way could there be to enjoy all of our hard work?

Jay Peak Tram Haus Lodge OPEN!

Jay Peak, Vt., (December 18, 2009) The Jay Peak Tram Haus Lodge is officially open! The opening was celebrated Friday, December 18th with a ribbon cutting ceremony and reception in the newly opened Tower Bar. It was a festive holiday season at the new lodge for skiers and guests!

Winooski, Vt., (January 5, 2010) Gardner Kilcoyne architects would like to welcome the addition of some new members to the team--a little belated for some. Olivia Tarricone joined us in June, fresh out of her undergraduate architecture studies at the University of Pennysylvania. Kelley DesRoches Cotton, LEED A.P., is a returning face, rejoining GKA in July after time working in England and at another local firm. Elise Chasse, LEED A.P., joined us in November after completing her M.Arch at Univerity of Arizona and working at a firm in Tuscon. Welcome to all!

Pearl St. Renovations

Essex, Vt., (November 16, 2009) GKA is designing a new Gatehouse, including a welcome center and ticket facility for the renovations to Pearl St. in Essex. The design of this building will evoke Essex Junction’s rich history as a railroad hub and the Exposition’s nearly century long status as one of the largest agricultural fairgrounds in the Northeast. Pedestrians will travel under the arched entryway and proceed through the gates to the exciting events that await them!

The new building and entry gates are a portion of a larger VTrans Pearl Street Streetscape Improvements Project led by Lamoureux and Dickinson Engineers.

South Burlington Police Station

South Burlington, Vt., (September 15, 2009) On Tuesday, Sept. 15, South Burlington voters passed a bond to fund the new police station. GKA is pleased to announce that we will be working with REM Development to plan and design the new facility at 19 Gregory Drive. We expect the South Burlington Police to be able to move to their new facility by June 2010.

Jay Peak, Vt., (June 15, 2009) Construction at the new Hotel at the base of Jay Peak’s main slopes is progressing at a break-neck pace. Gardner Kilcoyne Architects is coordinating the architectural and Interior design and construction detailing. GKA is working along side DEW Construction and numerous consultants and subcontractors. The team’s driving goal is to open in time for Christmas!

The new Lodge will house 57 hotel rooms and many public amenities including a restaurant and bar with indoor and outdoor seating, a coffee shop, gym and spa facility, ski shop, and Jay Peak’s new ski and snowboard rental shop.

Champlain College's Emergent Media Center Opens in Champlain Mill

WINOOSKI, Vt., (Oct. 23, 2008) The official opening of the Emergent Media Center (EMC) on Oct. 21 provided the business community a chance to meet students, faculty and staff of the new high-tech education center and see first-hand the ground-breaking projects Champlain College students are working on at the EMC’s new quarters at Winooski's historic Champlain Mill.
Gardner Kilcoyne Architects’ design transforms space in an historic mill to house up to 50 students with state of the art technological equipment. A variety of labs and open studio areas are designed to enhance the students’ creative collaborative process.
The Emergent Media Center at Champlain College is pushing creative technologies by integrating advanced technological tools with cultural awareness, communication, and a sense of history and place. When combined, these skills are paramount to success in many professional fields in today's global economy.
Vermont Gov. Jim Douglas, Lt. Gov. Brian Dubie, Secretary of the VT Agency of Commerce and Community Development Kevin Dorn, Champlain College President David F. Finney, and representatives from many top technology and software design companies around the U.S. and Canada attended the opening at the former woolen mill located on the banks of the Winooski River.
"I really see what we are celebrating today as the next industrial revolution," Gov. Douglas said. Gov. Douglas sees the EMC's move into the Champlain Mill as a critical step in the state's creation of a thriving hub for innovative new media and technology businesses.
