Champlain College’s Miller Center at Lakeside was a design/build project completed with REM Development. The College’s intent was to consolidate multiple departments scattered around the College’s campus and downtown Burlington into a single office building. The College’s goal at Lakeside was to create an open workplace to facilitate collaboration and to share daylight throughout the building. Departments are delineated by custom designed maple storage walls and modular systems furniture with accents in the department’s signature color.
To reinforce collaboration beyond the office space, there is a cafe directly off the lobby which is a busy hub serving a number of diverse functions: a secure and welcome waiting area for the campus shuttle, a student breakout area adjacent to the seminar room, and an informal venue for student and employee events.
